Holiday Social and Presentation: How To Run a "Need To Know" Law Firm
Start Date: 12/3/2013
End Date: 12/3/2013

TOPIC: Holiday Social and Presentation: How To Run a "Need To Know" Law Firm

Food and Beverage Sponsor: Prosperoware

Description:
Please join us for a short 15-minute presentation by our sponsor, Prosperoware, on how to run a "need to know" law firm. This will be followed by a relaxed evening of networking with your peers with plenty of holiday cheer.

Presentation Description: Law firms face ever-increasing client pressure to move from the "access for all" model to the "need to know" model. Pressure is particularly strong in the financial services and health care industries, which face increasing regulation around data privacy as well as concerns about the risk of being hacked. Companies are threatening to move their business if their law firm doesn't step up its security. How do you operate a law firm when locking down 40-100 percent of the data? We'll discuss:

  • Why you can't manage what you can't govern (Hint: Frustrated users will work outside your DMS and its security controls to get their job done)
  • Specific steps you can take to move to a "need to know" model without inhibiting productivity and breaking the back of your infrastructure
  • How to align all the interconnected processes that affect security

Presenter:
Keith Lipman
is a well-regarded expert in the areas of information management and e-discovery, in which he has been involved for almost two decades. Prior to founding Prosperoware, Keith was the director of legal solutions at iManage, Interwoven and Autonomy iManage. He developed the go-to-market strategy for iManage in the legal industry and was the progenitor of matter-centric collaboration and the electronic file in WorkSite 8. Before iManage, Keith served in a number of professional capacities, including paralegal, lawyer, IT director in a law firm and technology consultant to law firms. Keith is a frequent speaker and contributing author of the book "Corporate Governance Best Practices: Strategies for Public, Private, and Not-for-Profit Organizations."

Is a Managed Services Environment Right for You?
Start Date: 12/11/2013
End Date: 12/11/2013

New Orleans Holiday Lunch and Presentation

TOPIC: Is a Managed Services Environment Right for You?

Lunch Sponsor: Iris Data Services

Description:

Law firms are becoming more dissatisfied with the internal capital and overhead expense required for supporting the e-discovery needs of its attorneys and clients. The increasing trend to combat these up-front costs is the use of a managed discovery environment, a relatively new concept for law firms and law departments.

Iris Data Services' Discovery Management program is a flexible, end-to-end solution that allows law firms and law departments to easily tailor the processing and review environment to their specific needs, and it is scalable with little additional cost. In addition to reducing the e-discovery spend for the corporate client, the Discovery Management model also gives the law firm the opportunity to capture storage and processing revenue otherwise lost to the service provider.

We will discuss the benefits of a managed discovery environment and how leveraging this type of service allowed Jones Walker to bring an industry-leading document review platform in-house at an affordable price while keeping costs predictable.

Presenters:
R.P. Smith, CEDS is the Manager of Practice Support at Jones Walker LLP in New Orleans and the ILTA Regional Member Liaison for Louisiana. With more than nine years of practice support experience, R.P. has extensive experience with managing large-scale e-discovery and document production, litigation technology training, advising attorneys and clients on e-discovery best practices, and educating/guiding attorneys through the complex e-discovery process. He can be contacted at rpsmith@joneswalker.com.

Zeke Alicea is the Southeast Regional Manager for Iris Data Services. With eight years of experience, he works closely with clients on a wide range of e-discovery matters, including data collection, processing and review. Zeke is responsible for the consulting efforts of his team in the Southeast region. He manages Iris Data Services' Production and Client Services facility and oversees Iris' expansion into Tennessee and New Orleans. In addition, Zeke is a frequent presenter on topics such as managing e-discovery costs. He can be contacted at zalicea@irisds.com.

Staging Done Right
Start Date: 1/21/2014
End Date: 1/21/2014

TOPIC: Staging Done Right

Lunch Sponsor: Kubisys

Description:
The ILTA Technology Survey shows that the rate of change in IT is increasing more than ever. Whether it's configuration changes, new software features, upgrades or patches, the pressure is on to manage and deliver more and more changes! You need a new way of thinking and a new tool to face these challenges. Kubisys Thin Capture has been heralded as a "game changer" in helping IT do just that.

Thin Capture is a powerful tool for creating and maintaining true staging environments for business-critical applications. It rapidly builds staging based on current live production environments -- ensuring accuracy and relevance -- and reduces risk involved in deployment of new software updates, patches and even configuration changes. Thin Capture's ability to provide production-like environments on demand allows law firms to cost effectively:

  • Perform accurate end-to-end testing of rollouts without affecting production
  • Create sandboxes for test-driving complex application configuration changes
  • Unleash developer productivity and creativity by allowing them to work in parallel within multiple independent test environments

Please join us for an overview, live product demo, legal vertical case studies and a technical Q&A session.

Presenters:
Dr. Shinichi Urano
, a theoretical physicist turned entrepreneur, is one of the co-founders of Kubisys -- where he wears many hats. He previously spent many years working closely with development and operations teams in a software development firm, where he first noticed disparate cultures and the resulting inefficiencies. Shinichi was instrumental in the original development of the Thin Capture solution and is passionate about Kubisys' mission to help IT deliver value more quickly and safely.

Jeff Martinik is the Senior Vice President of Sales at Kubisys, and has been instrumental in the success of their go-to-market strategy implementation. With over 25 years in the IT industry, he has extensive experience and exceptional strengths in hiring, managing and developing relationships, staff development and training programs. Jeff is a believer in the DevOps philosophy, and is a mentor and coach to many others who strive to push IT as a driving force in businesses today.
