TOPIC: ILTA/ALA: The Changing Role of the Legal Secretary
Please bring your own lunch.
Description:
The practice of law has changed rapidly over the past 15 years, and new technologies and business processes have impacted the role of the legal secretary significantly. A multigenerational workforce and recent economic uncertainties coupled with the explosion of new technology mean the pace of change will only increase in the next few years.
Please join moderator Terri Oppelt, CLM, panelists Michelle Liffman, SPHR who will represent the large firm perspective, Lydia Tavera with the small firm perspective, Dave Neesen representing IT, and Karen Maheu covering the recruiter's perspective for a lively discussion. Topics of discussion will include:
- Understanding how technology and efficiency are driving change
- Discovering the changing expectations of clients, attorneys and secretaries
- Determining ways to redesign the role of the legal secretary, including setting goals, analyzing needs and developing the skills to close the gap
Inspired by the January 2013 ILTA webinar, this session is presented jointly by ILTA and the GLA ALA. You do not need to be a member of both organizations to attend, and you only need to RSVP with one.
