Modern ECM for Productivity, Security and Compliance
Start Date: 4/8/2015
End Date: 4/8/2015

Modern ECM for Productivity, Security and Compliance

Lunch Sponsor: NetDocuments

Description:
Technology is fundamentally changing the way business is conducted. Growing dependence on electronic work product is dramatically increasing data volume, and society's ever-increasing mobility and connectedness require state-of-the-art technology to remain competitive and provide clients with expected levels of service. It is more essential than ever that a law firm's technical solutions keep up with industry demands.

Meanwhile, the rise of the mobile workforce has caused many individuals to abandon their firm's technology, adopting unauthorized consumer-grade tools instead. This makes it difficult to achieve a sound information governance strategy and exposes the firm to possible data leakage, security risks and lost productivity. The pervasive low rate of user adoption of legacy enterprise content management (ECM) systems has only intensified this problem, making a significant negative impact on the way a firm operates, services clients and meets security and compliance needs.

Come learn how modern ECM best practices and tools will increase your firm's productivity and user adoption, secure the firm's work product and achieve the compliance your clients demand.

Presenter:
John Sroka
, a Senior Account Executive at NetDocuments, has more than 15 years of experience in the legal market, including a decade working with document management systems. Discovering the Cloud - The Forecast for Cloud-Based E-Discovery
Start Date: 4/13/2015
End Date: 4/13/2015

Discovering the Cloud - The Forecast for Cloud-Based E-Discovery

Lunch Sponsor: BlueStar

Description:
As more organizations migrate to the cloud for data storage and implement content and collaboration applications to manage their business, it is necessary to fully understand the legal obligations regarding e-discovery in the cloud. Explore the practical and legal issues lawyers face when the duty to preserve electronically stored information (ESI) in the cloud arises.

Focusing on key points and legal issues concerning implementing cloud-based solutions in terms of legal implications and best practices for storing, accessing and collecting ESI, we will address topics such as:

  • Who really owns the data? - Possession, custody and control of the data under FRCP 34(a)(1) and related jurisdictional issues
  • Access and preserve ESI in the cloud - Learn how to align document retention and destruction policies with a cloud solution and discover solutions for ongoing preservation and production
  • Available tools - Leverage cloud technology as a legal hold/document preservation repository for pending litigation and/or compliance issues

We will discuss the early decisions and best practices a practitioner must address, and how to best utilize these technologies during litigation or compliance. We'll highlight the technical aspects of cloud solutions by looking at software platforms that use the cloud to assist in the collection, preservation, culling, review and production of relevant ESI for litigation, and that are useful for preserving data to help organizations remain in compliance.

Improve Efficiency, Profitability and Client Service Through Better Business Acceptance

Lunch Sponsor: Intapp

Description:
Thinking about updating your intake and conflicts processes? It's time to think strategically. Historically, firms have viewed intake and conflicts as separate systems, and any upgrades were focused primarily on automating manual processes. Today, firms must think about intake and conflicts as a unified process called "business acceptance." The traditional model of "can we take on this business?" becomes "should we take on this business?" -- a shift that opens the door for incredible strategic opportunities.

Traditional tools make it difficult to take advantage of this opportunity, providing unintuitive search tools and lengthy conflicts reports that increase the likelihood of missing a conflict, and lacking the integration necessary to minimize financial and professional risk. And as clients increasingly put pressure on law firms to comply with stringent pricing requirements, terms of engagement and outside counsel guidelines, firms are challenged to evaluate the suitability of new business as it impacts their long term growth objectives. Learn how to transform business acceptance to improve operational efficiency and achieve strategic goals, including:

  • Evaluating new business in terms of profitability
  • Managing both financial and professional risk
  • Enhancing engagement letter management
  • Streamlining intake & conflicts for faster matter opening

Presenter:
James Edwards
, a Risk Solution Consultant at Intapp, collaborates closely with law firms to execute successful new business intake and conflicts management projects. Previously, he oversaw risk management and business intake processes at Squire, Sanders & Dempsey LLP, where he managed over 80 risk professionals and defined and implemented firm-wide policies and practices for intake, conflicts, anti-money laundering, audit letter response, regulatory compliance, records management and docketing. James received the 2014 ILTA Publication Award for Best Vendor-Contributed White Paper Article. Contact him at james.edwards@intapp.com.
