Electronic Signatures for the Legal Industry -

TOPIC: Electronic Signatures for the Legal Industry

Lunch Sponsor: DocuSign

Description:
The value of electronic signatures has led to widespread use in financial services, real estate, health care and in consumer applications over the past 10 years.  Despite this mainstream adoption, the legal industry has been slow to embrace the technology's benefits. If your clients are not already requesting electronic signatures, they will soon expect to sign in the cloud. Understanding this technology will become a requirement for your business. Come explore the important issues around e-signatures, and learn how they can transform your paper-intensive and slow processes as we discuss the following:

  • The nature and definition of an electronic signature
  • The legality of electronic signatures
  • Compliance and security issues (what to trust and not trust)
  • The value of electronic signatures to your organization, including examples of existing use cases within law firms

Whether you use an Enterprise Search Engine, a DMS or Content Management System, including Microsoft SharePoint, there are many documents that users cannot find with a full text search query.  Content Crawler from DocsCorp, automatically finds all the non-searchable documents in your repository or file system and converts them to text-searchable PDF's.  It even looks inside emails for attachments that need to be converted.  This allows your full text search engine or enterprise search engine to index the documents that it could not index otherwise, providing more accurate search results for users that rely on full text searching.

Understanding the Nature and Scale of InfoSec Attacks on Law Firms -

TOPIC: Understanding the Nature and Scale of InfoSec Attacks on Law Firms

Lunch Sponsor: Contego

Description:
According to the head of the cyber division in the New York City office of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, law firms are easy quarry for hackers. For more information, read the Bloomberg article "China-Based Hackers Target Law Firms to Get Secret Deal Data."

On November 7, 2012, Gen. Keith Alexander, the commander of U.S. Cyber Command and director of the National Security Agency, discussed widespread cyberattacks hitting major corporations and the damaging loss of intellectual property being harvested from their computer networks. "From my perspective, this is huge," Alexander said. "When we look out there_the companies that have been hit-you look across the board. Everybody's getting hit."

Mandiant will discuss attacks on law firms and how attackers are looking for the weakest links in the supply chain. They will cover:

  • Why law firms are a prime targets for nation-state (Chinese Red Army) cybercriminals
  • Real-world examples of how small failures resulted in massive multimillion-dollar losses for organizations
  • Why traditional tools (antivirus software, intrusion detection systems, log analysis, etc.) are no longer able to stop the bad guys
  • Why mitigating APT malware may be a better strategy than attempting to remove it
  • Preventing the return of the same or newer, more powerful malware
  • Advanced tools, tactics and technologies to combat malware security threats

Document Comparison: How Does It Work and What's Changed? -

TOPIC: Document Comparison: How Does It Work and What's Changed?

Breakfast Sponsor: DocsCorp

Description:
Document comparison is a must-have technology for law firms. Over the last five years, there have been significant changes in the technologies used to analyse, mark up and output changes as either redline or track-change documents when comparing Word and PDF documents. One of the main benefits seen is the ability to create a comparison results document that retains all the formatting and fidelity of the original, which enables the professional to continue working on the document - reducing frustration, enhancing workflow and increasing productivity. Law firms have also seen incredible improvements in terms of accuracy, speed and integration with the tools they use every day.

Attend this session to learn how document comparison has evolved from the red pen to the use of MS Word and to today's leading-edge technologies that can compare Word, PDF, scanned and other document types. Security Concerns in the Document Management System: Defend Against  Hackers, Satisfy Client Concerns and Address ISO 27001 -

TOPIC: Security Concerns in the Document Management System: Defend Against  Hackers, Satisfy Client Concerns and Address ISO 27001

Lunch Sponsor: Prosperoware

Description:
Law firms are under increasing pressure to beef up security to defend against hackers, satisfy client security and privacy concerns, and address ISO 27001 requirements. The growing threat from hackers to law firms is real, with attempts focused on using inside information for economic gain and on "hactivism" for political gain. Successful attacks on law firms have demonstrated that once the firewall has been breached, hackers typically meet few barriers to data access. In order to protect the enterprise content stored on your servers, you should consider a hybrid approach to security that provides multiple rings of defense beyond the firewall.

Come learn about the policies, controls and tools you can apply to enhance security for your document management system - while meeting your users' needs for flexibility and ease of collaboration. The same controls that defend against hackers can help you satisfy your clients' requirements for better security and privacy. This session includes a demonstration of how Prosperoware Milan software addresses security concerns on all of these fronts.

Presenter:
Keith Lipman
is a well-regarded expert in the areas of information management and e-discovery. Prior to founding Prosperoware, Keith was the director of legal solutions at iManage, Interwoven and Autonomy iManage, where he was the progenitor of matter-centric collaboration and the electronic file in WorkSite 8.
